Class 2 – Summer term 2013

This term our main topic has a geographical theme.  We are looking at, using, drawing and making maps.  This will lead on to studying our own local environment in more detail and then to journeys further afield.  Our summer term visit is yet to be decided.

In science we are looking at healthy bodies, animal life-cycles and human senses.  This is a great topic and has plenty of scope for interesting investigations.  Does anyone have frog or toad-spawn in their garden?

We are linking our art and DT work into these two topics and hopefully will produce some interesting and thoughtful pieces.

In literacy we are currently reading and thinking about the works of a particular author.  We are using John Burningham and using his stories to write our own.  We will then move on to writing explanations and recounts.

In numeracy we continue to refine our calculations skills by committing number facts to memory and to develop further our understanding tens and units and then hundreds tens and units.  Our map work will help us with practical positional and directional work (north, south, east, west, left, right, half and quarter turns)

In RE we are looking at the parables told in the New Testament and how they might help us today.

You can continue helping your child by hearing them read their books regularly and help them to learn their spellings.  They should be able to tell you what they have been covering in maths if you would like to support in this area.
